Skills Training Opportunities
CLCY Practical Skills Learning Center (PSLC) is a five to ten years plan to build a place for our mostly disadvantage youth and social orphans to learn hands on skills training. CLCY encourages skills training opportunities to empower a new generation of workers in Liberia. Below is CLCY proposed PSLC to be built in Careysburg District Montserrado County, Liberia. CLCY has purchased 5 acres of land for this education sight.
Practical Skills Learning Center (PSLC)
CLCY, recognizing the critical needs of the children and youths of Liberia, which include lack of
quality education opportunities for Liberian children caused by the 14 years of bitter civil war
and deadly Ebola outbreak, desire to seek help from other philanthropic institutions and
individuals to achieve the following objectives through the PSLC:
- To develop the skills and intellects of Liberian Youths for future challenges
- To provide equal opportunities for all youth irrespective of gender, religion,
creed/ethnic background, or economic background
- To create awareness of basic healthy lifestyle through health services and health
education
- To solicit volunteers – professional service providers such as doctors, nurses, engineers
and other professionals to donate resources (time and money) for the realization of the
vision of this organization
The unemployment of Liberian youth is staggering, about 40% of the youth ages 16 to 19 do not
have formal education resulting in this increased unemployment. The Practical Skills Learning
Facility will house the following:
- Vocational training center
- Multipurpose hall
- CLCY Resources center
Establishing the PSLC, CLCY will be able to provide training in carpentry, masonry,
mechanics, agriculture, electronics and computer literacy. PSLC will also be a place to read
books, practice critical reading and writing skills supervised by CLCY volunteers. In addition,
through the PSLC, Liberian youth will receive assistance with preparation of resumes, job
interview skills, and social and professional networking. The PSLC will be the first of its kind in
Careysburg District and its surrounding communities with a population of over 45,000 people.
Orphanage Home.
The facility and program expenses will be covered through a combination of donations, grants
and fees charge for various services including renting conference space. The PSLC will serve as
a hub for Careysburg residents, providing educational opportunities and conference center
currently lacking for residents.
