BIOGRAPHIES OF BOARD of Directors AND STAFF

Change for Liberian Children and Youth (CLCY)
Establishment and Mission:
On March 4, 2017, a group of dedicated individuals, including Daniel, Emmanuel, Marc, Hawa, Jacob, and Flomo, convened in Daniel's village to organize a children's program. The overwhelming turnout of over 500 predominantly underprivileged children and youth highlighted a significant need for support within the community. Recognizing this disparity, the group envisioned an organization focused on empowerment through quality education for underprivileged youth. Following a year of strategic planning and development, Change for Liberian Children and Youth (CLCY) was formally established in the United States.
Operational Launch and Expansion:
CLCY was subsequently launched in Liberia on July 21, 2018, as a local charity dedicated to serving the children and youth of Liberia. On March 16, 2019, CLCY further solidified its operational framework with the establishment of a voluntary Board of Directors and dedicated staff members.
Community Impact and Crisis Response:
CLCY has demonstrated a tangible commitment to the people of Liberia, notably through its impactful response during the COVID-19 pandemic. In April 2020, CLCY provided over $3,750.00 in essential food and supplies to support its volunteers, sponsored students, the Hope in Christ Orphanage Home, two local churches, and other vulnerable community members in Liberia. This crucial support was extended again in July 2021, with an allocation of $8,000.00 to address the urgent needs arising from the Delta variant outbreak.

A Visionary Leader Driven by Faith and Compassion: The Executive Director/Founder of Change for Liberian Children and Youth (CLCY)
The driving force behind Change for Liberian Children and Youth (CLCY) is its Executive Director and Founder, a devout Christ-centered individual whose life journey is a testament to resilience, faith, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Rooted in a deep personal connection to God and humanity, his passion for giving back to his native Liberia is profound.
His early life was dramatically impacted by the brutal Liberian civil war, forcing him to seek refuge in the Ivory Coast. Despite the immense challenges of displacement, his faith in Jesus Christ and his pursuit of education remained steadfast. Navigating the complexities of refugee life, he persevered through three different refugee schools, ultimately graduating high school in 2001. That same year, he found refuge in the United States.
Demonstrating a commitment to personal growth and community engagement, he attended Kennedy King College in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with honors and an Associate of Arts degree in 2005. While residing in Chicago, his desire to serve manifested in his volunteer work with Rainbow PUSH, where he dedicated his time to supporting youths grappling with drug abuse on the city's South Side.
Driven by a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunities he received, he answered the call to serve his adopted nation by enlisting in the United States Navy in 2005. His exemplary service was recognized with the prestigious Military Outstanding Voluntary Service Medal (MOVSM), personally presented by the Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus in September 2015. Further acknowledging his exceptional contributions, he received a personal letter of commendation for outstanding service from the Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. His dedication and leadership were further highlighted on February 4, 2022, when he had the distinct honor of sharing lunch with both the Commander Naval Operations (CNO) and the Master Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy aboard the USS Mason DDG 87 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Despite his achievements in the United States, his heart remained connected to his homeland. Witnessing the devastation wrought by 14 years of civil war and the Ebola epidemic, he felt a compelling calling to contribute to Liberia's rebuilding. His initial focus was on spiritual restoration, leading a successful fundraising effort that garnered approximately $60,000.00 for the construction of a new church edifice. Demonstrating a deep personal investment in CLCY's mission, he later utilized his family's life savings to establish a property in Careysburg, providing welcoming accommodation for international missionaries and volunteer workers.
His passion for missions stems from a profound personal experience. Having been introduced to the love of God through American missionaries in his village, he understands firsthand the transformative power of selfless service. This early exposure instilled in him an unconditional love for all and solidified his identity as a man of unwavering faith and deep compassion. He eloquently states, "That seed of love did everything" and fundamentally shifted his perspective on life and service.
Together with his wife, Elizabeth, he actively supports the next generation in Liberia by sponsoring an underprivileged child through CLCY's sponsorship program. Their commitment extends beyond individual support, as they are both deeply invested in the growth and sustainability of CLCY, diligently working and contributing financially to advance its vision and mission. The Executive Director/Founder's personal journey, marked by resilience, service, and a profound faith, serves as an inspiring foundation for CLCY's impactful work in Liberia.

His distinguished naval career encompassed various roles, including Supply Petit Officer (SPO), team leader (UN), CPR/BLS Instructor, Hospital Corpsman, Safe PO, Medical Laboratory Technician, and coach and captain of the Naval Branch Health Clinic New London, among others. His exemplary service was acknowledged through numerous accolades, including the Navy Marine Achievement Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, and the Blue Jacket of the Quarter award.
Driven by a continuous pursuit of knowledge and professional advancement, Mr. Sapolucia earned a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from Texas Southern University in 2017, where he served as Class President from 2014 to 2017. Recognizing the importance of accessibility to education, he collaborated with the Texas Workforce Commission to secure scholarships for the Clinical Laboratory Science program in 2016, benefiting at least ten students starting in 2017. He also holds an Associate of Science degree in the same discipline from The George Washington University. Currently, he is pursuing his Master's in Healthcare Administration at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. His commitment to education extends to his role as a Teacher's Assistant to Dr. Dorothy Cummings at Texas Southern University, where he prepares Clinical Laboratory Science students for the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification exam. Furthermore, he actively contributes to his community as the Co-chair and a teacher in the Youth Department of Christian United Ministries International (CUMI).

Evelyn's Story

Pastor Evelyn Puckett: A Lifetime Dedicated to Ministry, Leadership, and Global Compassion
"I knew you before you were in the womb, I set you apart before you were born." Jeremiah 1:5 serves as a foundational scripture for the life and ministry of Pastor Evelyn Puckett, a testament to a calling recognized from her earliest years.
Raised in a home deeply rooted in faith, Pastor Evelyn, alongside her brother, accepted Christ at the age of three and a half. Their innate musical talents on the piano and organ, coupled with their natural vocal harmonies, quickly established them as a young duet ministering in their church, on street corners, and in missionary settings – wherever their father found an opportunity for them to share their gifts. Their home was a sanctuary for many, including Jewish individuals who found faith and were launched into their own ministries.
Seeking her place in ministry after high school, Pastor Evelyn's journey led her to work with Gerald Derstine in Sarasota, FL, and later with Morris Cerullo and his family in San Diego. A profound prompting led her to Elim Bible Institution in Lima, NY, where she was blessed to learn under the impactful ministry of Bob Mumford and numerous other influential teachers. It was at Elim that her own ministry began to flourish as she sang, played, and began to preach, recognizing a powerful call and the potency of the Word. A significant experience during her second year involved ministering on the streets of New York with "The Little People," a teenage gang. Following graduation, doors opened for her to return to Elim as a teacher, where one of her students was John Giminez—a connection that would eventually lead her to Virginia Beach.
Arriving in Virginia Beach, Pastor Evelyn assisted John and Anne Giminez with their burgeoning church, The Rock Church, which emerged from the charismatic revival of the 1960s. She directed the "girls' home" for troubled teens struggling with addiction. After a period of teaching once again at Elim, a desire to serve in Africa, where many missionaries connected to their ministry were stationed, took root. For six months, she traveled internationally, ministering in diverse countries and unexpected places. Upon her return, she rejoined The Rock Church in Virginia Beach, unaware of the significant path God had yet to unfold for her.
In 1974, she met Fritz Stegemann, a man who would profoundly impact her life. His inquiry about a pianist to help start a church marked the beginning of Open Door Chapel, an exciting new season in her ministry. Together, they witnessed God's miraculous provision, enabling the church to move into an old barn on Holland Road, which became a vital sanctuary and laid the groundwork for a greater influence in Virginia Beach. Pastor Fritz's fervent dedication to Christ and his willingness to reach others, regardless of personal cost, were deeply inspiring. He utilized excess church land on Virginia Beach Boulevard to establish the Virginia Beach Center, by which time the growing congregation had relocated to the old "Princess Anne Theatre." Notably, "The side door" of the church became a haven for an AA group, leaving a lasting legacy of hope and help.
While intermittently ministering in music at Open Door Chapel, Pastor Evelyn maintained a deep connection with Pastor Fritz, his wife Fran, and their children. In 1977, she married Gerald Puckett, and their family grew with the birth of their two children, Susan and Bryan. During this time, while raising her children, she remained involved in ministry, assisting numerous pastors in the Tidewater area with music, teaching, and preaching. In 1994, she entered ministry with the United Methodist Church, serving as a pastor in Norfolk for 16 years.
After retiring in 2010, a new chapter began unexpectedly in June 2011 when she visited Open Door Chapel. By November, she was voted in as the pastor. Remarkably, two years prior, Pastor Fritz had prophesied that she would be the next leader of Open Door Chapel, shortly before his passing. This affirmed her deep-seated belief in God's mysterious and purposeful ways. Embracing the promise of Haggai 2:9, "The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former," Pastor Evelyn leads with the conviction that the best is yet to come.
Since connecting with Daniel Henderson in March 2019 and learning about his vision and mission for the children and youth of Liberia, Pastor Evelyn and the Open Door Chapel family have embraced Daniel, his family, and CLCY with profound affection and support. Under Pastor Evelyn's leadership, Open Door Chapel has become a significant partner of CLCY, sponsoring five students and actively contributing to the organization's long-term goals, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to God's people and a global vision of compassion.
